Cheriton Funerals, an independent family funeral directors, is based at the former Eardisley Railway Station, which first opened its doors to passengers on 30 June 1863. The station closed on 31 December 1962, and in the years that followed the Player family took on the grounds, converting the old engine shed into a home now known as Cheriton House. Where travellers once waited for the branch line service, the family has quietly restored the old railway waiting room into the Old Station Chapel of Rest. The thought is a simple and moving one: to care for members of the local community as they make one last journey from a place that once sent so many others on their way. Cheriton Funerals is run as a family concern, offering a personal, dignified service that can be arranged over the phone, by email, at the office in Eardisley or in the comfort of a family's own home.
