The Farewell Guide, the UK’s only independent funeral comparison site, has announced an exclusive partnership with GoFundMe, the world’s largest fundraising platform, to help families manage the growing financial burden of funerals.
Research from The Farewell Guide shows 64% of families search for funerals at the moment someone dies. With funeral expenses increasing and currently average £5,140, with professional fees adding £2,635, The Farewell Guide predicts that at least 15% of British families experience notable strains in trying to find the funds.
More than £35 million is raised on GoFundMe every week, with thousands of new fundraisers launched each day. Since 2021, the platform has seen a 21% increase in donations tomemorial fundraisers, while the average donation amount increased by 7.5%.
Through the partnership, The Farewell Guide becomes the only funeral comparison service featured on GoFundMe’s website, giving bereaved families access to transparent funeral pricing alongside trusted fundraising tools at a time when costs are at record highs.
The integration will allow users of The Farewell Guide to seamlessly connect with GoFundMe, enabling them to:
● Fundraise for funeral or memorial costs
● Choose to raise donations for hospices and other charities in memory of their loved one
● Share campaigns easily with family, friends and the wider community
By combining transparent funeral comparisons with simple, accessible fundraising, the partnership aims to reduce financial stress for families at one of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Rebecca Peach, founder and CEO of The Farewell Guide, said, “Funeral costs have risen sharply in recent years, and too many families are left worrying about money at a time when their focus should be on saying goodbye.”
“This partnership with GoFundMe recognises that support during bereavement isn’t only about covering costs. For many families, it’s also about coming together to honour someone’s life, whether that’s seeking help where it’s needed, or raising money for hospices and charities that mattered to them. By bringing transparent funeral comparisons and trusted fundraising tools into one place, we’re making those choices easier at a very difficult time.”
GoFundMe’s Senior Vice President John Coventry said, “Thousands of families turn to GoFundMe each year to help cover funeral costs. We’re proud to partner with The Farewell Guide to make it easier for people to find support and focus on what matters most.”
The Farewell Guide works with more than 6,000 trusted local funeral directors across the UK, helping people compare prices, plan ahead, and ensure funerals reflect personal wishes.
